Final results show no clear winner in Israeli election

Final Israeli election results out Friday confirmed that neither Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nor his rival, Gadi Eisenkot, won enough seats to immediately form a government.

Netanyahu’s bloc won 53 seats in the 120-seat Knesset while the main opposition secured 48. Arab-led parties won the remaining 19 — a historic showing for the bloc.

While Netanyahu remains in power for now, a tense period of negotiations lies ahead as parties try to form a coalition. If that effort fails, another election could be held early next year.
