A federal judge is opening an investigation into whether Justice Department lawyers misled the court about plans to renovate an historic golf course in Washington, D.C.

During a Friday hearing, Judge Ana Reyes said she would appoint a special master to look into whether officials misrepresented or withheld information regarding renovation work on the course.

Government lawyers have said no final plan is in place, but President Donald Trump says the course will be shut next month for a 15-month renovation.

Earlier in the week, the judge barred the administration from carrying out further work on the course without first giving prior notice. The administration appealed the ruling.
