Amid pushback from Germany and other European Union (EU) members for Canada to be granted “associate” membership in the alliance, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has dismissed a question asking if she would be worried if the concept could be “scrapped altogether” in a year as continental elections approach. Speaking Friday in Montreal, the EU chief said a “vast majority [of member states] is for [in favour of] the fact to bring Canada closer to the European Union.” She added she "would've loved to discuss" full membership for Canada if it were possible. #Canada #EU #Politics
