Ontario Premier Doug Ford expressed excitement Wednesday following the results of the U.S. midterm elections that saw Democrats seize control of both the House and Senate, scoring victories in Republican strongholds for the first time in generations.
Ford said Americans had spoken on multiple issues, including the cost of living, the war in Iran and tariffs on trading partners. But he added, “let’s be under no illusion that this trade war is done. It’s not done. It’s not even close to being done because the president still has the power.”
“Trump wants to blame everyone else but himself. You know, he says, well, you know, just pretend my name is on the ballot. Well, the American people, listen to that. And they showed what they thought about President Trump,” Ford said.
“American people spoke and I couldn't be happier. They can blame everyone they want, but President Trump has to look in the mirror, take responsibility for the results of last night.”
The premier announced he had directed his ministers to travel to Washington to connect with newly elected senators once they are sworn in.
