Mexico City celebrated Day of the Dead on Saturday with a massive parade.

A highlight of this year’s event was a giant “Catrina” — an iconic character in Mexican culture — in the city’s main square. The monumental figure is over 30 metres tall.

Day of the Dead is a pre-Hispanic tradition in which families remember their dead and celebrate the continuity of life. As part of the celebrations, people will don “Catrina” masks and parade through the streets in colourful costumes.

The holiday falls on Monday, Nov. 2.
