With NASA preparing to deorbit the International Space Station in the next few years, astronaut Karen Nyberg reflected on what it will feel like when the station is disassembled and brought down to Earth.

“The original design of the space station was about 15 years, so it’s done incredibly well,” Nyberg told Horizons host William Brangham.

“Any place you lived and loved, when it's no longer functioning, it will be sad," she added

Astronaut Don Pettit said commercial space stations are “significantly smaller capability platforms” compared to the International Space Station.

“We will not have this capability built for a long, long time in any follow-on space station,” Pettit said.
