What Ramaswamy’s ad says about this political moment

An ad from Ohio Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy featuring Democratic opponent Amy Acton’s estranged mother is "lower than we've expected" even in this political environment, The Dispatch’s Stephen Hayes says.

Acton's stepfather was indicted for raping Acton when she was a child. Her mother, Donna Arthur, lost custody of Acton and her other children after the indictment. In the ad, Arthur criticizes her daughter, implying she has mental health issues.

“It's bizarre," Hayes told Washington Week moderator Jeffrey Goldberg. “They're weighing in on this controversy from 50 years ago when there's all of this evidence that what Amy Acton said happened, in fact happened,” Hayes added.
