Republican Vivek Ramaswamy’s team has confirmed that it produced a controversial advertisement featuring the estranged mother of Amy Acton, his Democratic opponent in the race for Ohio governor.
In the ad, Acton's mother, Donna Arthur, claims Acton lied about growing up homeless and living in a tent. Arthur lost custody of Acton and her brother after their stepfather was accused of raping Acton as a child. Acton says she hasn't been in contact with her mother since.
Ramaswamy’s campaign said it will spend $4 million to promote the ad despite facing bipartisan rebuke.
