The United Nations is condemning what it calls “collective punishment” of Palestinians in the West Bank, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered a lockdown of the region.
The move follows a deadly attack on Friday where two Palestinian gunman opened fire on an Israeli checkpoint. Two Israeli soldiers were killed before the shooters were shot dead by troops near Hebron. The incident prompted Netanyahu to threaten a major offensive into the occupied territory just days before an Israeli election.
As Jillian Piper reports, the Israeli army is also demolishing Palestinian homes and infrastructure, under claims of cracking down on terrorism.
