Canada’s business community reacts to 2026 federal budget

The recently tabled federal budget is already receiving a lot of mixed reaction from Canada’s business community.
A group that represents small and medium-sized businesses is calling it “disappointing,” after they had hoped for tax cuts and tariff relief. However, there were some measures for businesses that the group is pleased with, including the Productivity Mega Deduction which allows businesses to immediately write off the full cost of some investments like machinery and equipment.
Meanwhile, The Business Council that represents large companies in Canada says it’s encouraged by the efforts to incentivize private sector investment, with the CEO of the council saying, “we agree that Canada could be on the cusp of an investment supercycle.”
