The Government of Canada responded to the auditor general’s performance audit reports on Thursday.

Minister of National Defence David McGuinty, Justice Minister Sean Fraser, Minister of Health Marjorie Michel, Minister of Transformation, Public Works and Procurement Joël Lightbound and MP Wade Grant responded to the reports.

Asked about a $1.2 billion funding shortfall for Canada's dental plan, Michel said that because it is still a relatively new program, "We are still looking into it to sharpen it to make sure it is still sustainable."

On the report that the Canadian Armed Forces is underutilizing ammunition already purchased, McGuinty said, "we have progress to make. And we're making it. We accept and embrace all of those recommendations. In fact, we're acting on most of them already."

"For example, she's made some really important contributions to how we merge our tracking system with respect to how we store ammunition and we distribute ammunition," McGuinty said.
