Millions of Americans are casting their votes for House, Senate and gubernatorial candidates in the 2026 midterm elections. And while President Donald Trump is not on the ballot, this is a pivotal moment for his presidency, which could shape his final two years in the White House, and his political legacy.

Democrats are hoping to capitalise on concerns about high costs of living, exacerbated by President Trump's tariffs and the war with Iran. Opinion polling suggests the Democrats could take control of both houses of Congress, but many key races are within the margin of error. Close Senate races are forecast in several previously reliable Republican states, including Texas, Alaska, Iowa, Kansas and Ohio.

In this video, we visit some of these battleground states, and find out how issues like rising fuel costs, immigration and affordable healthcare are affecting voters.
