Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described his relationship with President Donald Trump as “emotional” in an interview with PBS News’ Amna Nawaz.
“Sometimes we need to be pragmatic in this war,” Zelenskyy said. “Who is an enemy? Who began this war? Putin. Don’t find good words to describe him. I’m not sure that it will be helpful.”
U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff praised Russian President Vladimir Putin after he freed an imprisoned American in late October. Witkoff described Putin as a “humanitarian.” Putin has been indicted for war crimes by the International Criminal Court.
Zelenskyy also criticized Trump’s deal with Russia to import tons of Russian diesel to the U.S.
“If you are really about money, business and pragmatism, so don't speak that it will have influence on the price in the United States,” Zelenskyy said. “No, it’s not true, it doesn’t work.”
The Ukrainian president said the pragmatic thing to do is to support Ukraine.
“We have to support Ukraine,” he said. “Because it has to be strong, because otherwise Putin will go further to Europe and to the different parts of NATO countries.”
