What if the heat we throw away could power the country? Dr. Lonnie Johnson, the engineer who invented the Super Soaker, joins Matt to explain the JTEC, a heat engine with no moving parts. It uses hydrogen and an electrochemical membrane to turn low-grade heat straight into electricity, no pistons or turbines. Johnson says roughly 20% of America's abandoned oil wells could cover all US power needs, and he pegs untapped waste heat at $190 billion a year in electricity. So is direct heat-to-power finally within reach? Or is the lab still a long way from your grid?
