Polls predict a tight race between Democrat James Talarico and Republican Ken Paxton to elect a US senator in Texas. A win for Talarico would mark the first election of a Democratic senator in the traditionally Republican state in 38 years, and the first time a Democrat had won any statewide office since 1994. Democrats expect to win at least partial control of Congress in the midterm elections and impose political constraints on President Donald Trump for the first time in two years.
