A paramedic who spent nearly 60 years serving his community and providing care to individuals needing medical support, has officially signed off.
Mike Neville, a paramedic with Durham Region started his career in 1967, and has responded to more emergencies than he can count.
The now retired paramedic says some calls included, "delivering a baby... I've had a knife pulled on me... multiple car accidents... some people don't realize like what kind of calls and what you're going to see being a paramedic."
"The love of the job, the love of helping people," are what Mike said kept him going for so long. He says a recent cancer diagnoses is the reason he had to retire.
Caryn Lieberman has the story.
