New home for orangutans rescued from Indonesia’s burning forests | AFP

Deep in Indonesia's Kalimantan forest, nine orangutans who were rescued from wildfires are released after recovering from their injuries. "Some of them had burns on their hands and feet, and some of them were also really skinny and malnourished," says YIARI wildlife rehabilitation CEO Karmele Llano Sanchez. The orangutans were rescued in August and September from a palm plantation in Ketapang Regency as fires swept through the area. Now, they have been released into Batu Nyambu, a 23,000-hectare protected area.
