Scenes from across the US as polls open for the midterm elections for Congress, which will decide 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 in the Senate. Early voting has been underway for weeks in some states, but Tuesday November 3 is the official election day. The vote is seen by many as a referendum on the performance of President Donald Trump, even though he himself is not on the ballot.
